Phillip Phillips Even with the struggles of his kidney problem, the 21-year-old pawn shop worker from Leesburg, Ga. Phillip Phillips overcomes and won American Idol.

Phillips told Kelly Ripa  during his interview on “Live With Kelly” that he’s been sick the whole show, and now that he won American Idol he’s trying to get everything done to recover.

In the next two weeks, he is expected to undergo the procedure.

The very humble new Idol heartthrob told reporters backstage after he won that he didn’t expect to win.  While runner up Jessica Sanchez said she predicted that Phillips is gonna be the winner.

Congratulations Phillip Phillips, stay humble and be yourself, and most of all get better!
